Service Description

Course Description The CPR & First Aid Instructor Development Course (IDC) is an HSI emergency care and safety program that comprised of • an online cognitive training segment followed by • an 8-hour, face-to-face instructor-led session. The goal of the face-to-face portion of the IDC is for participants to gain or improve instructional knowledge, skill, and proficiency in teaching with HSI training programs. After Instructor Candidates (IC) complete the CPR, AED & First Aid Instructor Development Course, they will be able to certify individuals in CPR, AED, and/or First Aid. Additional courses, such as AVERT can be added as well. Course Audience The course audience is persons with little or no previous teaching experience who desire or require sufficient competency to teach, evaluate, and certify participants in HSI training programs who have completed the self-directed online portion of the HSI IDC and are ready to practice leading a training class. Participants Prerequisites 1. ICs must demonstrate a strong cognitive grasp of the subject matter they wish to teach and the ability to proficiently demonstrate all skills taught in the student-level program. 2. Candidates must be able to read and speak English. 3. Current, valid student-level certification in the training program the candidate wishes to teach and/or at minimum, competent demonstration of student-level skills for 4. The recommended minimum age to undertake IDC is seventeen (17). Maturity, responsibility, and classroom presence will always be considered, regardless of age. Course Format The HSI IDC is a blended learning course. ICs must complete both the self-directed online portion and the instructor-led portion of the IDC. The terminal learning objectives of the face-to-face instructor-led portion may be completed in single or multiple classroom sessions designed for that purpose. Candidates Must Keep in Mind 1. When booking the course Candidates should give themself time (72 hours or more) to complete the online portion of this blended course. Upon completion of the Blended portion, IC will be required to attend and complete a face-to-face instructor-led session. 2. Upon successful completion of the IDC, candidates must affiliate with a Training Center and submit an instructor application to finalize instructor authorization.
